Payment Problems: Troubleshoot Deposits, Payouts, and Errors
Fix common Serpverse payment issues including declined deposits, 3D Secure failures, delayed payouts, Stripe Connect errors, and missing transactions.
Payment Problems
Diagnosing Serpverse Payment Issues
Payment problems on Serpverse fall into two categories: money coming in (buyer deposits) and money going out (publisher payouts). Each has its own failure modes and fixes. This guide walks through every common scenario so you can resolve payment issues without waiting for support.
Serpverse processes all payments through Stripe. Most problems originate from your bank, card issuer, or Stripe account configuration rather than from Serpverse itself. Understanding where the issue lives determines whether you fix it here or contact your financial institution.
Deposit Failures (Buyers)
Deposits fund your Serpverse balance, which you use to place orders. When a deposit fails, no funds are deducted from your payment method and your balance remains unchanged.
Card Declined
The most common deposit failure. Your card issuer rejected the transaction.
Common causes:
- Insufficient funds or credit limit reached
- Card issuer flagged the transaction as suspicious (international or unfamiliar merchant)
- Card expired or details entered incorrectly
- Daily transaction limit exceeded
Fix:
- Verify your card details: number, expiration date, CVV, and billing ZIP code
- Check your bank account or credit card balance
- Call your card issuer and ask them to authorize transactions from "Stripe" or "Serpverse"
- Try a different card if the issue persists
- Attempt the deposit again after the issuer has cleared the hold
3D Secure Authentication Failed
3D Secure (3DS) is an extra security step required by many European and international card issuers. During a deposit, your bank may redirect you to a verification page to confirm the transaction via a code, app notification, or biometric check.
Symptoms:
- Redirect to a bank verification page that times out or errors
- "Authentication failed" or "3D Secure failed" message after redirect
- Deposit page hangs after the bank verification step
Fix:
- Ensure your bank's mobile app is installed and up to date (many banks send push notifications for 3DS)
- Check that your phone number on file with your bank is current
- Disable browser pop-up blockers temporarily, as 3DS often opens in a pop-up or redirect
- Try a different browser. Some 3DS implementations have compatibility issues with specific browsers
- If the bank app requires a code, enter it within the time limit (typically 5 minutes)
- Contact your bank if 3DS consistently fails — they may need to enable online transaction verification for your account
Deposit Stuck as Processing
Occasionally a deposit may show as "Processing" in your dashboard for longer than expected.
Normal behavior: Most deposits complete within seconds. Some may take 1-2 minutes during high-traffic periods.
If processing exceeds 5 minutes:
- Do not attempt the deposit again. This may result in a duplicate charge
- Refresh your dashboard page
- Check your bank statement or app to see if the charge appeared
- If the charge appears on your bank statement but your Serpverse balance did not update, contact support with the transaction details
Supported Payment Methods
Serpverse accepts the following through Stripe:
| Method | Supported | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Visa / Mastercard | Yes | Credit and debit |
| American Express | Yes | May have higher decline rates internationally |
| Discover | Yes | Limited international support |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | Yes | When available in the Stripe Checkout flow |
| Bank transfers (ACH) | No | Not currently supported |
| PayPal | No | Not currently supported |
| Cryptocurrency | Limited | Available when enabled; check the deposit page for current availability |
Balance Update Delays (Buyers)
After a successful deposit, your balance should update immediately. If it does not:
- Hard refresh your dashboard (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)
- Sign out and sign back in
- Check your Dashboard > Transactions for the deposit entry
- If the transaction appears in your history but the balance is wrong, contact support
Balance discrepancies are rare and typically caused by browser caching. A hard refresh resolves the issue in most cases.

Publisher Payout Issues
Publisher payouts are processed through Stripe Connect. You must have a fully configured Stripe Connect account to receive earnings. If you have not set this up yet, follow the Stripe Connect payout guide.
Stripe Connect Not Set Up
Symptoms:
- "Set up payouts" banner on your dashboard
- No "Withdraw" button visible
- Earnings accumulate but cannot be withdrawn
Fix:
- Navigate to Dashboard > Settings > Payouts
- Click Connect with Stripe to begin the onboarding flow
- Complete all required fields: legal name, address, date of birth, bank account details
- Wait for Stripe to verify your identity (usually instant, sometimes 1-2 business days)
Stripe Connect Verification Pending
Stripe requires identity verification before enabling payouts. If your verification is pending or has been rejected:
Pending verification:
- This is normal for new accounts. Stripe typically verifies within 1-2 business days
- Check your email for any additional information requests from Stripe
- No action needed unless Stripe contacts you
Verification rejected:
- Stripe sends an email explaining what information is needed
- Common issues: blurry ID photo, name mismatch between ID and bank account, unsupported bank
- Log in to your Stripe Express Dashboard(opens in new tab) to resubmit documents
- If you cannot resolve verification issues through Stripe directly, contact Serpverse support
Bank Account Verification Failed
Your bank account must pass Stripe's verification before payouts can be sent.
Common issues:
- Account number or routing number entered incorrectly
- Bank does not support Stripe transfers (rare with major banks)
- Name on bank account does not match the name on your Stripe Connect account
Fix:
- Log in to your Stripe Express Dashboard
- Navigate to the bank account section
- Remove the existing bank account and re-add it with corrected details
- Verify the account holder name matches your legal name exactly
Payout Processing Delays
After you request a withdrawal, funds go through several stages:
| Stage | Typical Duration |
|---|---|
| Withdrawal request submitted | Instant |
| Serpverse transfers to your Stripe account | Immediate |
| Stripe pays out to your bank | 1-3 business days |
| Funds available in bank account | Same day or next business day |
Total expected time: 2-5 business days from withdrawal request to bank deposit.
If your payout is delayed beyond 7 business days:
- Check your Stripe Express Dashboard for the payout status
- Verify your bank account is still active and in good standing
- Check for any communication from Stripe about holds or issues
- Contact Serpverse support with your withdrawal transaction ID
Earnings Not Appearing as Available
Publisher earnings go through a mandatory 14-day hold period after an order is completed before they become available for withdrawal. If your dashboard shows earnings in "Pending" but not "Available," the hold period has not elapsed yet.
Check your earnings timeline:
- Navigate to Dashboard > Transactions
- Find the completed order's earnings entry
- Note the completion date and add 14 days
- Earnings move to Available balance after the hold period
This hold protects against chargebacks and is applied to all completed orders. See the 14-day hold period guide for the full explanation.
Missing Transactions
If a deposit or payout does not appear in your transaction history at all:
For deposits:
- Check your bank statement. If the charge does not appear, the deposit never processed. Try again
- If the charge appears on your bank statement, take a screenshot showing the date, amount, and merchant name
- Contact support with the screenshot and approximate time of the deposit attempt
For payouts:
- Confirm the withdrawal request was submitted by checking Dashboard > Transactions
- Check your Stripe Express Dashboard for the payout status
- If neither Serpverse nor Stripe shows the transaction, the withdrawal may not have been submitted successfully. Try again

Preventing Payment Problems
A few proactive steps eliminate most payment issues:
- Keep your payment method current. Update expired cards before depositing

- Use a major bank for Stripe Connect payouts. Niche or online-only banks occasionally have compatibility issues
- Enable notifications so you catch failed transactions quickly
