Entertainment is among the better-value categories on a cost-per-visitor basis. Traffic here is high and cheap relative to business or health inventory, because the audience is browsing rather than buying.
The category covers film and television, music, and anime and comics as sub-topics, and prices differ noticeably between them. Film and television sites carry the largest audiences; the more specialist sub-topics cost less and reach fewer, more committed readers.
Be honest about what you want from the placement. Entertainment audiences are large and broadly interested, which suits brand exposure and suits direct response much less well.
Look past the headline traffic to what the site actually covers. Entertainment is broad enough that two sites with identical metrics can share almost no audience.
The scale is real — entertainment sites reach more people than almost anything else at this price. That makes them useful when the goal is being seen widely rather than reaching a specific buyer.
It also means the audience is diffuse. If you sell to a narrow professional group, the same budget spent on a smaller specialist site in your own category will usually reach more of the people you actually want.
